a 9-11 U.S. attempts to prevent cyber
The advance of Internet has been so rapid that today the whole of humanity to a greater or lesser extent is connected through the network. From grandparents who have discovered a new communication tool that allows them to receive and forward mails, to the financial system, governments, utilities, universities ... the world everything is interconnected by the formidable cyber infrastructure.
But have you stopped to think that the Internet could receive a massive attack by hackers, organized crime, terrorist organizations or foreign governments, which would cause a catastrophe with unpredictable consequences?.
A month ago the company Sony acknowledged that the personal data of about 77 million users of its Playstation may have been stolen by computer criminals. While Sony said that the stolen information was encrypted, data included names, addresses, passwords, credit card numbers and debit cards, expiration dates and security codes. Days later, Sony returned to announce that another 25 million users, this time from Sony Online Entertainment, may have been victims of identity theft in an attack by computer criminals. Given this, the company decided to remove the Internet platform. Just last Saturday two services began to be restored partially, but Sony will now have to face severe legal action, allegedly for not having done enough to protect the privacy of its users.
If Sony has affected 100 million users, can you imagine what would happen if a government, as the U.S. suffers a major attack on the cybernetic system?. And there is real concern about the White House.
presenting to Congress a bill that seeks to counter one of the greatest dangers to national security, the government said: "The vulnerability in the system cybersecurity of our government and our critical infrastructure, are a risk to national security , public safety and our economy ". The legislative proposal includes a number of public and private measures to improve warning systems to cyber attacks, integrate systems communication of security agencies and penalize those who engage in such activities. According to the Pentagon, more than 100 foreign intelligence services are actively attacking the 15,000 networks of U.S. government comprising of seven million computers.
.
to James Lewis, director of the Technology and Public Policy Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). "America is the largest target for such attacks because we are the country most dependent on cyber networks and we have great vulnerabilities. These networks are critical to our security and our economy," said the official .
Recall that a massive cyber attack paralyzed Estonia in April 2007. The small Baltic country constitutes one of the best connected and computerized societies of Europe, the attack broke all their online system causing chaos throughout the electronic infrastructure, both public and private. The government indirectly accused Moscow of attack, and based on the Russian government has not shown any interest in helping or to investigate if there is any involvement in their territory. The event put on alert throughout the European Union and the USA where he talked about a new tactic of war.
What is now the White House with the new project, is to prevent a cyber 9-11, referring to extremist attacks of 11 September 2001 in New York and Washington. Happen, could be devastating to the U.S., but if it happened in our country, or globally, are we prepared for the event?.
