The Island Council reports that the institution has intercepted a total of 40 illegal taxis during the last week as part of the campaign that drives since last July. Of the vehicles involved, 26 are for illegal taxi services, to which has opened disciplinary proceedings, 5 correspond to illegal car hire with driver, and the other 9 cases have risen to record acts upon, to fruition. In addition, 4 vehicles were frozen.
With these latest actions, the Consell Insular de Ibiza, the Guardia Civil and local police on the island have intercepted a total of 241 illegal taxis since last July 1 to launch their summer campaign against illegal transport to incorporation of new inspectors. In 178 of these cases there have been allegations, and the other 64 minutes have been raised prior record. Moreover, since the campaign began 41 vehicles have been immobilized by non-resident drivers penalized in the English State, aimed at the Council.
This year all infringement cases opened by the Land Transport Act practice as illegal taxis are considered 'very serious', so that leads to a fine of 6,000 euros. On the other hand the records of prior record is raised by the Consell inspectors when they suspect the driver of the vehicle is carrying out an illegal activity, but do not have enough evidence to file a complaint, they said. Thus, an accumulation of acts of this kind involves a formal complaint and the resulting penalty.
A total of four inspectors and two assistants hired by the Consell reinforce the work of local police and Civil Guard devoted exclusively to the task of locating those responsible to carry out any kind of illegal transportation. Punitive control campaign will continue throughout the month of September and is in addition to the information campaign promoted by the Consell which warns of the dangers of using an illegal taxi to the disclosure of which 200 posters were hung and have distributed 100,000 leaflets and 100,000 information packages, they concluded.
